Google Starts Supporting Google+ Hashtags In Search Queries


Google+ started supporting hashtags in May, and today the company announced that Google Search will now allow you to search for Google+ posts by using these hashtags. Given that there’s a little bit of Google+ in every Google product now, it’s no surprise that these Google+ hashtags are now finding their way into other Google products................more news via link

Google Wallet App For iPhone Released

Google has just launched a free Google Wallet app in the App Store. Though the app doesn’t support in-store payments (since Apple’s iPhone doesn’t feature an NFC chip), Google Wallet users can nevertheless perform a number of useful tasks using the application, which is optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch................more news via link

Google buys mobile sharing app Bump

After raising nearly $20 million and becoming one of the most downloaded mobile apps but failing to find real revenue, Bump Technologies has been acquired by Google. Not only Marissa Mayer and her team at Yahoo worked on a new logo. Google also tests a new logo that's flat, minimalist, fresher and reduced to its essence, as Sir Jonathan Ive would say.

Android 4.4 is Called 'KitKat'

Google's SVP Sundar Pichai has just confirmed that the next version of his mobile OS is called KitKat aka Android 4.4. Each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake (1.5), Donut(1.6), Eclair (2.0), Froyo(2.2), Gingerbread(2.3), Honeycomb(3.0), Ice Cream Sandwich(4.0), and Jelly Bean(4.1,4.2,4.3).

Google bought smartwatch company WIMM Labs

Google has acquired the smartwatch manufacturer WIMM Labs.WIMM Labs release its first smart-watch in 2011.When WIMM Labs was taken over by Google, the company deleted its official account on Twitter, stopped sales of the WIMM One, and published a message on its website saying “During the summer of 2012, WIMM Labs entered into an exclusive, confidential relationship for our technology and ceased sales of the Developer Preview Kit.”

Google's Vice President Hugo Barra is leaving Google

Google’s vice president of Android product management Hugo Barra has leaving Google and is taking a job at Chinese  Smart Phone company Xiaomi.

Barra confirmed the departure in a Google+ post saying,

 A new Android chapter

After nearly 5½ years at Google and almost 3 years as a member of the Android team — the most amazing group of people I've ever worked with in my life — I have decided to start a new career chapter.

In a few weeks, I'll be joining the Xiaomi team in China to help them expand their incredible product portfolio and business globally — as Vice President, Xiaomi Global.  I'm really looking forward to this new challenge, and am particularly excited about the opportunity to continue to help drive the Android ecosystem.

It has been an amazing ride and true honor to be part of the Android team at Google, and I especially want to thank +Andy Rubin , +Hiroshi Lockheimer , +Sundar Pichai and +Vic Gundotra for their phenomenal support and mentorship over the years.

+Android team, I will truly miss you all!

Yahoo beats Google

The latest numbers from comScore’s Web rankings pegged Yahoo as the top US Web property in terms of unique visitors for the month of July, beating out long-time rival Google.The report pegs Yahoo visitors for the month at about 196.5 million helping it take the top spot on the list followed by Google with 192.2 million.
